Big Brother Australia 2005 was the fifth series of Big Brother Australia, . The series started on May 8, 2005, with housemates going into the House the day before, and finished on August 15, 2005, the series lasting a total 101 days. The theme of the series was "single, sexy, and competitive".

Auditions for housemates were held in March 2005. The producers of Big Brother Australia toured around the major Australian mainland cities and conducted interviews. Searching for sexy singles that were willing to have sexual relations on camera. Promos for the show suggested that Big Brother would be different this year, with phrases such s such as "Assume Nothing, Expect Anything", "Let's Play", and "Think Again" being used heavily throughout the series, especially during Opening Night.

Changes and additions

Fines

On Opening Night, it was revealed that there would a $5,000 fine which would be subtracted from the prize money of $1,000,000 for every time the housemates broke one of the house rules. Rules such as , discussing nominations, which must remain secret; not giving adequate reasons for nominating; and forgetting to wear microphones at all times. Michelle was known for being the housemate to get the most such fines: a total of $65,000. Geneva had the least amount of fines $15,000, two in the early days of the series and one towards the end of her eviction.

The Logans

It was also revealed that a set of twins would also be entering the House with none of the other guests being told , the twins changing places on a regularly basis , but to make things interesting, they weren't informed of what the other twin had done while in the House. Greg and David entered the House as a single person named Logan (logan being their shared middle name). Their task was to remain undetected for two weeks while swapping places at Big Brother's command.

Glenn discovered the he secret of the twins one week into the series,lateong being this was revealed during Lies Exposed. As a result of their discovery both Logans were able to continue living in the House, but would be treated as a single person in matters such as evictions and nominations.

Late in the series a special eviction was held where one twin was evicted based on the votes of the other housemates, and the remaining twin allowed to continue in the House as a normal housemate. During this eviction process David was evicted. However, because Greg was the last housemate to be evicted, both David and Greg shared the prize equally.

Disqualification

Upon entrance to the House, two housemates Constance and Nelson admitted they were in relationships before entering the house . A third housemate, Dean, had been confronted by Big Brother about the same matter just hours before entering the House, and he admitted that he was in a relationship too.

For this series producers had only sought after single housemates and these three contestants (Constance, Nelson and Dean) had lied during the audition process in order to still be eligible for the show;

One week into the series the producers announced that the three of them Constance, Nelsonand Dean , had broken the terms of their contract. They were sent to the stripped down Rewards Room before Big Brother allowed them back into the House. Unknown to the housemates, the three were nominated for eviction and the Australian public selected two housemates Constance and Nelson to be evicted, while Dean remained in the House

Big Brother decided that neither Constance nor Nelson should have prizes, which was disappointing for Nelson in particular because he said he only wanted to be in Big Brother for the prizes; especially the car

When Dean was evicted many weeks later , the prizes problem was again addressed, as to whether he would receive them. Gretel Killeen received instructions through her earpiece and announced that Big Brother had decided that as he had survived upto this point after the Intruders had arrived, he had earned the position of housemate, so would receive the prizes.

Housemates

Angela

Angela Aiken entered the House Day 0 and was subsequently evicted first on Day 15.

Christie

Christie Mills resides on the Gold Coast, . In 2006, she appeared in Zoo magazine with fellow Ausbb housemate Michelle.

Constance

Constance Hall, from Melbourne, was disqualified on Day 10 for not admitting to the Big Brother producers about a relationship. Constance entered the Big Brother House on Day 0.

Dean

Dean Glucina, originally from Canberra, now living in Melbourne and is of Croat heritage. Dean entered the House on Day 0 and along with the housemates Nelson and Constance failed to tell the Big Brother producers that he had a relationship in the outside world

Geneva

Geneva Loader lives on the Northern Beaches of Sydneyl. Geneva entered the Big Brother house on Day 0. She said that she was bisexual.

Gianna

Jane Pattison, known as Gianna in the House, from South Australia. Entered the house on Day 0. After Big Brother she appeared in Ralph magazine

Glenn

Glenn Dallinger is a sheep shearer from Stawell, Victoria. He entered the House on Day 0 and was later evicted on Day 57

Heath

Heath Tournier was an electrician from Grovedale, Victoria. Heath entered the House on Day 53 as an Intruder.

Hotdogs

Simon Deering, with his self-nicknamed "Hotdogs", was a 27 year old real estate agent from Western Australia . Being evicted from the house on Day 64. Hotdogs went onto being a host of the new Network Ten show The Up Late Game Show from 2005 - 2006.

Kate

Richelle Benson, known in the House as Kate, She was born in 1983,Working as an administration worker in Perth.. Kate entered the Big Brother House on Day 0. Kate was considered a possibility of taking the prize money , until she expressed her disgust at seeing two male house mates kissing , saying, "I'll vomit. That was disgusting. I'm homophobic ... That really freaking scared the shit out of me. I hate (homosexuality) and I fear it. I felt sick when you did that, seriously. Why does it make you angry to hear me say that?"

Logan

Identical twins David and Greg Mathew, known while in the house under the names of Logan David and Logan Greg ,they were treated as a single entity in Nominations, Evictions and Friday Night Live. They started the series as a single house mate by swapping places when big brother would call one of them into the diary room. The truth was later discovered by the housemates when an injury did not show on the other . Logan is their shared middle name. The twins were joint first prize winners.

Melanie

Melanie Smerdon entered the House as an Intruder on Day 53.

Michael

Michael Farnsworth was a 27 year old demolition man from New South Wales when he entered the House on Day 0.

Michelle

Michelle Carew-Gibson born 1980, before BB she was working as a topless barmaid in Western Australia. Michelle entered the Big Brother House on Day 0. l. Michelle had appeared nude at least once in an edition of Australian-based softcore men's magazine Platinum Girls. She was evicted on Day 36. After eviction, she went on to perform photo shoots for a number of men's magazines

Nelson

Nelson Russell was a 23 year old assistant manager . During his short stay, Nelson received a strike against his name for calling Big Brother a Jew. Nelson was disqualified on Day 10 for lying about his relationship prior to entering the Big Brother House.

Rachael Burns

Rachael Burns entered the House on Day 25 as replacement housemate.

After leaving Big Brother Rachael went on to complete a 1yr part time acting course, at the Actors College of Theatre and Television receiving a Certificate III in Theatre Performances and Practices. Rachael also completed a presenting and producing course with Sydney Academy of Film and Television,

Rita

Rita Lazzarotto a 29 year old nurse when she entered the Big Brother house on Day 53 entering as an Intruder. After the removal of two housemates from the Big Brother Australia 2006 House due to an alleged sexual assault, Lazzarotto reported that she had been subjected to a similar incident during her time in the Big Brother House.

Tim

Tim Brunero born 1976 a journalist from Sydney. Entering the House on Day 0 and ended up being a runner-up. Tim is now writing a book on his experiences on Big Brother and also publishing articles for magazines and newspapers . Brunero also writes for the ABC's show The Chaser.

Vesna

Vesna Tosevska born 1977 is a hairdresser from Melbourne. Entering the House on Day 25 with fellow house mate Rachel Burns as replacement housemates. Vesna is currently working on a podcast discussing all things Big Brother to go on her MySpace page.
